Jan Sumrall passed away on September 4, 2017 at the age of 74 in El Paso, Texas. She was born on January 15, 1943 in Akron, Ohio. Jan lived in many places in the US and Great Britain. Most recently, Jan served 8 years on the El Paso City Council as the Westside Representative. She loved to cook and volunteer, giving her time and effort to those in need. She organized and participated in numerous community events, with a special focus on helping children and animals. Jan had a keen sense of humor and a gift for making those she met feel welcome, accepted, and loved. Jan is survived by her loving spouse Bob Sumrall; her children John, Allison, Derek, and Wendy; her stepchildren Christine, Paige, and Bradley; and her 17 grandchildren, only one of which, Emma Hoggard, grew up in El Paso. Jan truly loved El Paso. She said, "I arrived in El Paso in 1991 not knowing a single person, and the people of El Paso opened their hearts to me. I was humbled that they trusted me to serve as their representative."
