GALES, Howard "Walker" Of Sidney B.C at 85 years passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital due to health complications. He was born on June 19, 1931, in Verdun Quebec, son of father Howard Wilfred and mother Ruby Walker. Walker is pre-deceased by his sister Norma and twin brother Howard; survived by his nephews Mike and Tim Waterson, niece Ruth Eden, and many close friends. Walker spent most of his working years on the Alderway Farm in Aldergrove tending the farm with Dr. Don Pinder. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time at his cabin at Cariboo Lake; was an avid boater and enjoyed putting at the Cordova Bay Golf course with his long time close friend Michael Topalian. Walker was a long time serving volunteer and First Aid instructor with the St John Ambulance and received a Lieutenant Governor Award for his years of dedicated service. Walker had a passion for dogs having them for companionship all through his life and he could be seen almost every day walking down the main street in Sidney, stopping to pet and offer a treat to every dog he passed on his daily walks. Walker will be sorely missed by all those who were touched by his graciousness, generosity, humor and his care for others. Many thanks to Dr. Dowler and all of the nurses in the Palliative Care Unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their support and comfort. A Celebration of Life reception will take place at the Mary Winspear Centre, Room #4, 2243 Beacon Avenue, Sidney B.C, on Sunday February 26 at 1:00pm.
