Homer SampsonOct. 3, 1923 - Dec. 3, 2016GRANGER - Homer Sampson, 93, of Granger, IN, passed away at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 3, 1923, in Griffith, IN, to the late Ross and Muriel (Todd) Sampson. On May 7, 1950, in Griffith, IN, he married the former Thelma Porter, who preceded him in death in June 1976. On June 27, 1980, in Indiana, he married Dorothy M. (Hawkins) Sampson, who preceded him in death on November 1, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Sampson and James Sampson.Homer is survived by his children, Peggy (Greg) Gatewood of Louisville, KY, Edith (Dennis) Gerdes of Mishawaka, IN, and Rodger (Ellen) Sampson of Buchanan, MI; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren.Homer was a lifelong Northwestern Indiana resident. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during
World War II. Homer retired in 1984 as a conductor with The E.J. & E. Railroad after forty-five years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Hobart
V.F.W.; a member of the Railroad Union where he served as an officer and was a Deacon of Griffith Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 11:00 am at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Homer Sampson may be offered to , 8604 Allison Road, Suite 140, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
