Holly C. ElickerYorkHolly Cris (Boileau) Elicker died peacefully at York Hospital at around 7 a.m. on October 21, 2016, due to complications from esophageal cancer. She was 69 years old and was the wife of Theodore (Ted) Elicker, with whom she would have celebrated their 50th year of marriage this coming June.She was born on September 20, 1947, the daughter of Gladys (Woy) Boileau of Somerset, and the late Paul Boileau of York. Somewhat ironically, she first lived at the corner of Dewey and West Poplar Streets only a few doors up from the grandparents of her later born husband, Ted. Coincidence…probably not. Holly grew up in the city and was a graduate of York High, Class of 1965 where she was an honor student, served in the student government and was a member of the Homecoming court (beauty and brains). It was there that she met and became the high school sweetheart of Ted. Married at 19, she left York College and accompanied Ted to State College where she earned her Ph. T (Putting Hubby Through) from Penn State, remaining an ardent Nittany Lion fan ever since. She then moved to Erie, and Burlington, Vt., where she learned to ski and confirmed that she hated cold weather. She returned to York and built, together with Ted, their dream house on part of the Boileau family lands in Conewago Township.She was the quintessential mother for her children, Gretchen Elizabeth Dekker, currently a professor of music at York College and the late Dr. T. Sean Elicker of Albuquerque, N.M. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she also found time to be a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker and Strickland-Thompson, which helped finance the college education of both Gretchen and Sean. She was a "1 Million Dollar Salesperson" back in the old days when it really mattered (sales only; not also counting listings) and later parlayed her knowledge of real estate into working as an associate at The Housing Council of York and later as a volunteer at Habitat For Humanity. She was a Penn State Master Gardener with a minor in herb gardening and gave talks on the subject. She practiced what she preached by cultivating her own sumptuous gardens on their property, Solace, in Conewago Township. She served for a term as a member of the school board of Northeastern School District.In addition to her mother, Gladys Boileau, she is also survived by her daughter, Gretchen and her husband, Jochem Dekker (from the Netherlands); her grandchildren, Noah and Sophie Dekker (students at Northeastern High School); her sister and next-door-neighbor, Michelle Mann and husband, Butch; her brother, Paul Boileau and wife, Anne of Supply, N.C; and a sister-in-law, Linda and brother-in-law, Pete Kenee of York. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. T. Sean Elicker. She is also survived by her two black cats, Ninja and Boo; and numerous goldfish in her garden pond.Holly traveled extensively with Ted to many places throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Europe thanks to Ted's countless frequent flyer miles -- she usually traveled in the front cabin on her numerous flights. She vacationed every year at Club Orient in St. Martin and was looking forward to a return trip this coming February. She spoke passable French and loved visiting Paris and Nancy, where she had good friends. She reluctantly managed to learn enough German to support Ted's business interests there but much preferred France and the Netherlands, especially in tulip time.Following cremation, there will be a celebration of life service at St. John's Episcopal Church in York on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Canon David W. Lovelace officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northeastern Foundation for Holly and T. Sean Elicker Memorial Scholarship Fund, 41 Harding St., Manchester, PA 17345, which will be established to help mathematically and musically inclined students in their endeavors. After the service, friends and family will find an appropriate venue to raise a vodka tonic (her drink of choice) and toast to her wonderful, but way too short, life.
