She was born on January 16, 1923 to the late Pink and Carrie McMillan in Bamberg, SC. Herlene is the widow of the late Matthew Leroy Beard and the late Alfred Turmon.Herlene was employed as a Cab Driver in the City of York for many years. She enjoyed fishing and watching baseball and basketball.Herlene leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Lee Mossie Beard (Sandy), Richard Beard (Yvonne), Samuel Beard (Kathy) and James Beard; three daughters, M. Leona Hedgepeth, Florrie Ann Beard and Esther Beard; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, Herlene was preceded in death by daughters, Carolyn Beard, E. Midge Beard and Linda Randolph; and a son, Harold Beard.A viewing from 9 to 11a.m. and service at 11 a.m. will be Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 474 S. Pershing Avenue, York, with the Rev. Dr. Aaron Willford officiating.
