Tupelo- Helon Maynard passed away peacefully on October 25, 2016, at the Mitchell Center after an extended illness. A life-long resident of Tupelo, she was born on May 21, 1929, to Hubert Price Hooper and Eula Mae Crockett Hooper. Helon graduated from Tupelo High School in 1948, and on December 29, 1951, she married Richard C. "Tom" Maynard. Helon worked all of her life until her retirement, spending most her working career as a bookkeeper for Dunlap Pontiac Cadillac Company, Big 4 Motors and Dossett Big 4. A life-long member of Harrisburg Baptist Church, she loved and served the Lord in many different ways, most notably teaching Sunday School for many years. She loved to shop for and wear beautiful clothes. During her retirement years, she and Tom loved to travel with friends all over the United States. Most of all, "Mamaw" loved and adored her two grandchildren, Matt and Molly.Helon is survived by her son, Rick and his wife, Chris; two grandchildren, Matt Maynard of Tupelo and Molly Maynard of Starkville; her bothers-in- law, Bob Maynard, Danny Maynard, and Mike Maynard; her sister-in- law, Linda Riley; and a host of nieces and nephews. During her illness she was loved and served by her most wonderful care-givers, Kristy Scruggs, Jan Holt, and Linda Horn, as well as her special friend and former employer, John Pearce. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Barbara Martin of Hattiesburg.A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday October 27, 2016, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Visitation will be at W. E.
