Harry G. Simons1937 - 2016Harry G. Simons, 78, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, in his sleep at his residence.He was born on Dec. 11, 1937, to the late Henry W. and Edna (Krueger) Simons in Kenosha. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. Harry received an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Supervisors Management from Gateway Technical Institute in 1981.Harry enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery during the Berlin Crisis at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1961-1962. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant Field Artillery in May of 1969.On June 13, 1982, he married Donna (Schwartz) Gibbs in Kenosha.Harry was employed at Warwick Electronics in Zion, Ill., from 1955 to 1972 as an electronic technician supervisor. When the plant closed he began working at AMC/Renault/Chrysler as a supervisor until he retired in December of 1992.Harry was a faithful member of Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, where he was currently President of the church council and was a member of the council for many years. He also volunteered for numerous events for the church.Harry was a member of the American Legion, an honorary member of the Boys Town and of the Wounded Warriors.Harry enjoyed his retirement, enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, golfing, going on casino trips, dartball, bowling, horse shoes and was an avid Packer fan. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Donna, his children DeAnn (Van) Weber of Iowa, Kimberly Helminger, Harry G. "Buddy" Simons II, John (Debbie) Gibbs and Jason Gibbs all of Kenosha, his 17 grandchildren, his siblings Al (Joan) Simons of Kenosha, Cindy Gilewski of California and Dave (Ruth) Simons of Kenosha and a brother-in-law Don (Jill) Schwartz of Racine. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.He is preceded in death by his daughter Diane Gibbs-Emerson and a granddaughter Erica Hanson.Funeral Services for Harry will be held on Monday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m. at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church (2313 – 17th Ave.) with Full Military Honors to follow. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. at the church. Memorials would be appreciated to Holy Nativity Lutheran Church.
