Harry OsterhoudtAbilene, TXHarry Osterhoudt, 77, of Abilene, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at a local nursing center. Funeral service will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at (The Gathering Place) Pioneer Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer Drive, with Pastor Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.Harry was born on May 12, 1939 in Kingston, New York in Milton, New York to the late Abe and Elsie Osterhoudt. He was raised by his loving and wonderful parents, Edward A. and Margie E. Fischer. Upon graduating from high school, Harry joined and served honorably in the United States Air Force from June 30, 1958 until April 25, 1962. He served our country in Africa as a medical service specialist. Harry attended school at McMurry University here in Abilene where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. He was a school teacher, worked at Hendrick Medical Center in the emergency room and retired from working for the City of Abilene. Harry was also a long-time volunteer for Loving Care Ministries in Abilene where for many years he selflessly devoted his time and attention to those in need. He was a gentle soul and is deeply loved by everyone who knew him.Harry is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Osterhoudt; his loving sister, Elsia Hill; his two beloved sons, Ken Osterhoudt and David Osterhoudt; two grandchildren, Maleah and Brayden Osterhoudt; four step-children, Sheila Cleckler, Michael Wilson, Richard Wilson and Randy Wilson; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Mr. Osterhoudt was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fischer; his sister, Alice Belford, and his nephew, Harold Belford.The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 North 12th Street.
