Graham E. GallagherJanuary 31, 1980 - March 20, 2017Greensboro, NCGraham Gallagher, 37, died on March 20, 2017 in Greensboro, NC from a heroin overdose. Graham struggled with addiction for most of his adult life, seeking rehabilitation facilities and attending daily meetings for help. We share his story in hopes that it helps someone and prevents others from going through this.Graham was born on January 31, 1980 in York, to Suzann (Becker) Gallagher and Edward Gallagher. He was a happy, easy-going, and fun-loving child and adult. His friends and family would all tell you what a big heart he had. Sundays were our favorite time with him. He could be found cheering on the Steelers, playing a word game with his mom, and playing cards with his dad and family. He never passed up a card game and would play all night if he had a partner. He was always up for wrestling with his nephews and making them laugh. He was a big kid at heart. You could also find him reading in his spare time. His roommates called him "the librarian" of the house due to his book collection. He graduated from West York High School in 1998 where he played tennis - a sport he inherited a love for from his dad.Graham had moved to Greensboro to make a change - to make an effort to start over. As much as he tried, his addiction was too great. We believe he would want us to tell his story, to help others fighting addiction. He spoke often of the many friends he lost to heroin. Friends who, just like him, did not deserve it. Addiction is something that reaches every race, culture, and neighborhood. We know it was a hope of his to help in some way. Words can't express how much the world will miss him. We know he is at peace and is no longer struggling. He is survived by his parents Ed Gallagher and Suzann (Becker) Gallagher of York; his sister, Angie (Gallagher) Nugent; brother-in-law, Adam Nugent; nephews, Roman and Charlie Nugent of York; and sister, Katie (Gallagher) Detrick; and brother-in-law, James Detrick of Orlando. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 26 from 2-5 p.m. The service and a reception will be held at the Shiloh Fire Hall at 2190 Carlisle Rd York, PA 17408.
