Grady A. Warren, Jr., 77, of Lake City, passed away December 27, 2008 at The Health Center of Lake City after an extended illness. He was born on January 22, 1931 in Lake City, son of the late Grady A. Warren, Sr. and Bessie Dennis Warren.  Grady graduated  from Columbia High School Cass of 1949 and attended the University of Florida.  He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was an avid "gator fan,"  he loved to watch and participate in sports events. He was a licensed Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).  He worked a number of years in Jacksonville and represented Gulf Life Insurance, Pacific Life Insurance, John Hancock and several other insurance firms during his some forty years in the business.  In 1990, he moved back to Lake City later opening the Grady Warren Insurance Agency at 422 East Baya Ave. He was the first agent of record who handled the City of Lake City Retirement Program for a number of years.  His greatest joy was helping and working with the city employees.  He retired from the insurance business in June 2002. While in the Jacksonville area he served as the President of the Sertoma Club, served as board member of the Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Clinic, and assisted with the Special Olympics Program.  He received The Huebner Scholarship Award by the Insurance Underwriters in Jacksonville, an award in the insurance education field. In addition to having an insurance agent career, he served in the Florida National Guard and retired after 20 years with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  During his service with the National Guard he graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Rotary Club and the Elks Club.  Along with his wife Faye, he became an active supporter of the Olustee Battle Festival.  He was kindly referred to as the official weatherman and successfully performed his duties well while always predicting "good weather."  Grady was a good friend to many people; he was a true gentleman, a kind loving husband and father.  His family wishes to thank all the medical staff and care givers at The Health Center of Lake City who attended to him and the family of friends who over the past years gave their support and assistance to Grady and to his wife, Faye He is survived by his wife, Faye Bowling Warren of Lake City; son, retired Marine Colonel Tim Hunter (Claudia), Pinehurst, NC, two step children, Mrs. Cindy O'Connell, Tallahassee, Mr. Marty Bowling, Jr. (Barbara), Sarasota, FL and Kilmarnock, VA; and one step grandchild, Mrs. Lesley Bowling Sachs (Eitan), Potomac, MD; cousins, Gerthena Pearce, Jack Robinson (Doris), Bobby Robinson, Willie Merle Dubose, Thomas Dennis and various nieces and nephews of Lake City also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Columbia County Senior Services-LifeStyle Enrichment Center Alzheimer's Fund, P.O.
