DeWane, Gordon FrancisGordon Francis DeWane, 93, Green Bay, died peacefully on October 6, 2017, at Bornemann's Nursing Home. He was born on March 9, 1924, to Thomas F. DeWane and Angeline (Bos) in Monroe, SD. Gordon attended kindergarten in Chicago where his father was going to school at the University of Chicago. His family returned to Green Bay where he spent two years attending Chappel Grade School, a two-room school at that time. He then attended St. Willebrord Grade School and graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1942. In February 1944, he was inducted into the U. S. Army receiving basic training at Camp Swift, TX. Following basic training, Gordon attended Rutgers University for a semester and was then sent to England and later to France where he served until March of 1946, when he received an honorable discharge. Once home in Green Bay, he married the girl he always loved, Elaine Landry, and together they raised a large family. She preceded him in death on August 3, 2000.Following military service in 1946, Gordon attended the University of Wisconsin Extension before it became the University of Green Bay. In 1947, he transferred to St. Norbert College, De Pere, WI, graduating in January 1950. Gordon worked as a pharmaceutical salesman for 16 years and then changed careers by joining Imperial, Inc. where he had a 30-year career. He began as their industrial salesman, was promoted to national account salesman, and retired as Vice President of Sales. After returning to Green Bay he and Elaine returned to St. Willebrord Parish when Fr. Exler was pastor, and Gordon served as an usher, altar minister, and lector. He served one term as a member of the Parish Council. His friendship with Fr. Ken DeGroot and Fr. Andy Cribben enhanced his love of his church family. Gordon was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #617 while meetings were held in the Columbus Building. As an U.S. Army veteran, he enjoyed being a member of the American Legion Sullivan Wallace Post #11 and the
VFW Post #75434. He and our mother Elaine enjoyed spending many happy years at his Crivitz cottage and after his children and their families left and it was quiet, he spent peaceful moments reading and watching the wildlife.He is survived by his children: Michael (Stephanie), Patrick (Pamela), Mary (Dale) Sorenson, James (Susan), Teresa (Jeffrey) Delfosse, Ruth (Louis) Van Ess, Mark (Marla), Thomas (Diane), Gordon, Jr., (and special friend, Mary Lealious), Jan DeWane, Robert (Nancy), and Timothy (Jill).His grandchildren are Jennifer (Andrew) Palalay; Brandon DeWane; Paul (Nicole) Sorenson; Brian (Andrea) Sorenson; Kelly (Curt) Pieschek; David DeWane; Jeremy (Angela) Delfosse; Danielle Delfosse (special friend, Jeremy Plog); Jeffrey Delfosse, Jr.; Christine (William) Petersen; Brenda (Andrew) Greene; Carrie Ann (JP) Zvesper; Kevin (Michelle) DeWane; Casey (Kristin) DeWane; Sean (Carrie) DeWane; Nicole DeWane; Eric DeWane (special friend, Mary Hass); Corey Miller (special friend, Sara Buss-Reed); Allison (Beau) Gagnon; Matthew DeWane; Nina DeWane; Brooke DeWane; Patrick (Hillary) DeWane; Katie (special friend, Ross Farley) DeWane; Andrew (Kayla) DeWane; Douglas DeWane; and Marie DeWane.Great-grandchildren include: Hope and Paige Palalay; Christopher and Mitchell Sorenson; Wyatt and Josephine Sorenson; Grace, Tyler and Jacob Pieschek; Ariana Cormier; Laney and Phoebe Petersen; Louella, Avery and Hudson Greene; Henry and George Zvesper; Rogan and Reese DeWane; Cru and Judd DeWane; Sean Jr. and Kinnley DeWane; Christian and Cameron Howard; Aidan DeWane; Sydney, Jordyn and Elayna Gagnon; Elizabeth DeWane; and Aleigha and Lincoln DeWane.Gordon is also survived by his brother, Abbot E. Thomas DeWane, O.Praem, of Jackson MS; sister. Marilyn Marsh, Virginia Beach VA; and nieces and nephews.Gordon is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine; parents, Thomas and Angeline DeWane; daughters, Kathleen and Christine; grandson, Joey DeWane; granddaughter, Laura DeWane; sisters, Gladys Jentz and Lois (John) Cawley; brother-in-law, Charles Marsh; brothers-in-law and spouses, Alden (Jeanette) Landry; Bradford (Bernice) Landry; Leonard (Arlene) Landry; sister-in-law, Ruthann (George) Sandberg; and parents-in-law, Ernest and Pearl Landry.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 13. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St. from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Abbot E. Thomas DeWane O.Praem officiating along with Rev. Andrew G. Cribben O.Praem and other Norbertine Confreres.
