GARRETT — George W. Schultz, age 86, from Garrett, Indiana, passed away on November 21, 2016. He was born on December 13, 1929 in Blue Island, Illinois, to Walter and Elizabeth (Rauwolf) Schultz. George enjoyed his long career as railroad engineer and retired after more than 40 years from CSX in 1989. He was a Korean Conflict veteran and was stationed in Germany. George will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, awesome father and grandfather and favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He lived his life with enthusiasm and loved gardening, camping, and vacations of any kind. After retirement, he often spent winters in Florida or Arizona with family and friends. George was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church in Garrett and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, and was PER of The Garrett Elks. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie (Gavin); his children, Mary Kay (Matt) Kucharski of Westminster Colorado, Joyce (Kenn) Werner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Theresa (Bill) Wingrove of Fishers, Indiana, George (Betsy) Schultz of Garrett, Indiana, and Christine (Shane) of Garrett, Indiana; grandchildren JoAnne Michael and son Jacob of Carson City, Nevada, Brandon Schultz (Stephani) and children Greydon and Elyse of Fort Wayne Indiana, Joseph Werner (Hayley) and children Tegan and Otto George of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Stephanie Handley (Brandon) and children Madelyn, Brady, Chase and Cole of South Bend Indiana, Justin Schultz (fiancee Larissa) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gavin Werner (fiancee Krystal) of St. Paul Minnesota, Ross Troeger of South Bend, Indiana, Anne Werner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Logan DeMarco of Garrett, Indiana, Elizabeth Cavanaugh of Muncie, Indiana, Fallon DeMarco of Westminster, Colorado, Sam Cavanaugh of Muncie, Indiana, and Dylan George DeMarco of Garrett, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Patricia (Schultz) Troeger. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garrett, Indiana, at 11 a.m. on Saturday November 26, 2016. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
