Eugene Goss, better known as Gene, of Jefferson died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at his home. He was 75.
Mr. Goss was born on June 27, 1938, to the late Leonard and Sibbi Barker Goss.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George Wayne Goss, Garrold Goss, Rev. James "Jim" Goss; and one half brother, Robert Goss.
Gene was a past member of the Ashe Masonic Lodge and the Ashe Shrine Club. He was a member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church. Gene served in the U.S. Army and served as the Sheriff for Ashe County from 1982-1990.
Mr. Goss is survived by three sons, Mark Goss of Lexington, Greg Goss of N.Y. and Scott Goss and wife Jennifer of Lansing; two brothers, Dean Goss and wife Ann of Jefferson and Rev. Steve Goss and wife Phyllis of Boone; one sister, Carol Driver and husband Donald of Washington State; one sister in-law, Anna Lee Goss of Jefferson; one grandson, Jonathan Goss and wife Brittany; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Easton Goss; two step great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Grayson Joyal; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Steve Goss. Burial followed in the Howell Hill Cemetery with Military Rites. The family received friends on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
