Noxon, Gary J.Gary James Noxon, 64, of Sarasota, FL and formerly of Nineveh, NY, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on May 25, 1952, son of the late Oliff D. and Veronica (Karabin) Noxon in Troy, NY. Gary enlisted in the US Air Force following high school. He served his country for nearly 23 years, proudly retiring as a Master Sergeant in May of 1993. He then began driving school bus for Afton Central Schools before becoming Transportation Coordinator. He retired in 2011 after 17 years with the school. In June 1973, Gary was married to Janice Sitors; she predeceased him in 2004.A little over four years ago, Gary moved to Sarasota, Florida where he thrived. He loved the community he lived in, and kept busy volunteering with many activities the community hosted. He was a member and vice president of the shuffleboard club and enjoyed kayaking. He also worked at the Sarasota County Fair every year (Gate 2), and was a volunteer for Circus Sarasota. All his life, Gary was an avid trap shooter and a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. Gary is survived by: his daughter and son-in-law, Jennine and Mark Brewer; son, Joseph Noxon; seven brothers: George Karabin , William H. Noxon, Ronald D. Noxon, Colin Noxon, Raymond Noxon, Edward Noxon and Oliff Noxon, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Anne Jordan and Martha Gail McCormack, as well as many nieces and nephews.Friends may call from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A service and military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Sidney Community Foundation, P.O. Box 333 Sidney, NY 13838 with Sidney Veterans Memorial Park on the memo line.
