Gary Michael Graham CHARLOTTE - Gary Michael Graham, family man, foodie, master of Trivial Pursuit, and hopeless romantic, died on Friday, October 28, 2016. His life began in Detroit, Michigan, where he was born on December 30, 1940 to Sally and Roy Graham. Growing up, he was famous for his beautiful singing voice and football stardom both in high school and at Bethany College. But nothing captivated his heart quite like the love of his life, Shirley. Though his friends knew him as the life of the party, Shirley fell for his love letters, sarcasm, and wicked sense of humor. After retiring from a successful career in sports marketing, he moved to Charlotte, NC and lived his idea of the perfect life to the fullest: golf, beer, friends, and, most importantly, family. He is survived by Shirley, their daughters, Katherine Weaver and Stephanie McCleary, their husbands, Britt and Scott, and six grandchildren: Haley, Charlotte, and Graham Weaver, and Katherine, Ellie, and Sam McCleary. He was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Mansfield. He spoiled everyone often, sending his wife, daughters, and granddaughters on an annual trip to New York City and saving fishing trips, Panthers games and rounds of golf for his sons-in-law and grandsons. He built a close knit family through trips to the beach, mountains, and, of course, through their appetites by making the most delicious stuffing at Thanksgiving. Known for his enormous bear hugs, deep, jolly laugh, and ability to talk about anything with anyone, Gary had the rare ability to turn every day into a party and make every person feel important. Gary hated moronic driversand if you're reading this, he's probably honked at you before as he drove down 51 to play golf at Cedarwood. He could drink anyone under the table and especially enjoyed cocktails from Dogwood. He could pack a perfect dishwasher and entertain anyone with his storytelling. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Receptions for Research(
receptionsforresearch.org), which is Panther player Greg Olsen's foundation. The family would also like to thank the staff of Carolinas Medical Center in Prineville, who took great care of him in the last three months. The family will hold a celebration honoring his beautiful life on Sunday, November 27th at Cedarwood Country Club from 2 - 4 PM. Come equipped with your favorite Gary storythe funnier, the better.
