It is with deep sadness that the family of Frederick Nelson McEwan announce his peaceful passing at the Dulcina Hospice in Calgary on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the age of 61 years with his wife Joanne and his son James by his side. He is also survived by his biological sister Evelyn (Dave) Ashton, his chosen family, mother Marion (Larry) McIntosh, and sisters Cindy (Rod) Evans, and Catherine (Randy) Saxby. He was predeceased by his biological parents Margaret Liddle Harvey, and Hiram Albert McEwan and by his chosen father Bill Saxby. Fred was born on February 3, 1955 in Prince Rupert, B.C. In his youth he was an avid hockey player, later in life he enjoyed training for and competing in Triathlons. Fred was very community minded and he was a member of the Crossfield Elks #416. He also sat on the Crossfield and District Recreation Board, as well as The Board of Directors for the Mountain View Credit Union. Fred was a rancher and a developer and he added the Bigway Grocery Store and "The Arches" to Railway Street in Crossfield. A Celebration of Fred's Life has been held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter, (P.O. Box 1515 Crossfield, AB T0M 0S0). He will be forever in our hearts.
