Fred E. "Tim" Hindman, age 100, of Sugar Hill, Pa., passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2016, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, Pa. Tim was born on Oct. 25, 1916, to the late James M. and Blanche (Knox) Hindman, in Butler Co., Pa. On Christmas Eve of 1946, he married Irene M. Hindman in DuBois, Pa.; Irene preceded in passing on Aug. 19, 2005. At a very young age, Tim started working on his family farm. Throughout his whole life he cared for cattle as a dairy farmer. At different points in his career he went to work for some other companies which included a Pittsburgh steel mill and the Brockway Glass plant working both on the hot end and performing inspections. He served his country as a member of the United States Army, following orders diligently during World War II; he was also a member of the Brockway American Legion post 95. Tim was an active member of the Sugar Hill Presbyterian Church. As time went forward, he dedicated his working life to the dairy farm, primarily supplying the Long Dairy and Modern Dairy companies. He was a social person and found himself a part of many different groups including the Beechwoods Saddle Club, the Laurel Dairy Co-op, and the Glass Blowers Association. Tim and Irene both were involved with 4H doing what they could to support the future generations. He was an active member of the Conservation District ensuring property preservation, and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, as well as the American Holstein Association; there are many other associations that Tim was able to support and help move forward throughout his 100 years. Irene and Tim both loved their family, and they always had many more people around than just the members of their household; they were avid supporters of foster children and they took many children into their home. Tim is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Russ) Lindemuth and Karen (Steve) Steele, both of Brockway, Pa.; one son, Dale (Coleen) Hindman of Brockway, Pa.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Tim is preceded in death by one son, Ricky Hindman; seven brothers and four sisters. Family and friends will be received today, Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, from 6–8 p.m., at the McKinney–d'Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A second day of viewing will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, from 10 a.m.–11:30 a.m., at the Sugar Hill Presbyterian Church, 11939 Route 28, Brockway, PA 15824. A funeral service will immediately follow the second viewing at the church on Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., and officiated by the Reverends Dave and Emily Koehler. Interment will take place at Beechwoods Cemetery, Washington Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Sugar Hill Presbyterian Church.
