Frank Thomas Rea1922-2016Frank Thomas Rea passed away in the early morning hours on Saturday, the 17th of December 2016, in Houston, Texas. He was 94 years of age.Frank was born on the 4th of December 1922 in Longview, Texas and educated in the public schools of Longview, where he graduated in 1938. Thereafter, in 1943 he received his B.B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and later his L.L.B. degree (Valedictorian) from South Texas College of Law at Houston. He was selected as a Distinguished Alumni of the College of Business at the University of Texas.During World War II he was an officer in the United States Naval Reserve and served aboard the U.S. Boston, a heavy cruiser, which was a unit of the Third Fleet and Fifth Fleet Fast Carrier Task Forces. His ship participated in every major naval assault from the Marshall Islands campaign in January 1944 to the signing of the Japanese surrender in Tokyo bay in September 1945.At the conclusion of his naval service he commenced the practice of public accounting in Houston, became a Certified Public Accountant, and eventually joined the firm of Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) and was a partner in the firm until his retirement in 1979. His chief professional interest was the field of taxation and he was active in the organizations of the accounting profession. He served multiple terms on the governing Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and on its Committee on Federal Taxation. He was chosen from the tax professionals from across the country to serve as an advisor to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue. He served as President of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and received its Award for Meritorious Service to the Accounting Profession in Texas and, at a later time, its Distinguished Public Service Award. He served for six years on the Texas State Board of Public Accounting and for two years of that term he was the chairman of that body.Though not an expert golfer he was an avid golfer and in his retirement years he was active in several organizations of senior golfers. At various times he served on the board of directors of Lakeside Country Club, the Asociacion Mexicana de Golf Senior and the Southern Senior Golf Association. For several years he was the president of The World Senior Golf Federation.He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Ann Elizabeth McDonald, for over fifty-one years. She was his sweetheart from the time they were eleven years old and they enjoyed a wonderful life together. She predeceased him in 1996.Several years after Ann's death he met and married Beverlye Cox Bukowski, and they had a joyful life together. He was known to happily proclaim his extreme good fortune in having such a wonderful second wife after the loss of his first love.With Beverlye came an extended family that Frank enjoyed immensely as they welcomed him into their family. Frank especially enjoyed the times spent with Beverlye's family at their second home on Lake McQueeney.Through his marriage to Beverlye, Frank came to know, and grow exceptionally fond of, one of the Bukowski family's long time employees, Ms. Lou McCloud. To Lou, Frank was family. His feelings were mutual.Frank is survived by his children, Frances Rea Griffin and husband, David T. Griffin, of Deerfield, Illinois, James A. Rea and wife, Jodie Rea, of Pacific Palisades, California, and Jay Frank Rea and wife, Karen Rea, of Sugar Land, Texas. Frank is also survived by his grandchildren, Meredith Griffin Castro and husband, Tom Castro, Bradley Rea Griffin and wife, Bethany Griffin, Emily Rea Pence and husband, Scott Pence and Matthew Thomas Rea. Frank was especially proud to have been blessed with four great grandchildren, Cayden Joy Griffin, Emma Lynn Castro, Charlotte Grace Castro and Charley Margaret Pence.The family is particularly thankful to the staff of BrightStar Home Care for their compassionate care for the last two years.Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening, Wednesday, the 21st of December in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 22nd of December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.Interment will follow, via an escorted cortège, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the services.In lieu of customary remembrances, Frank asked that contributions in his name be directed to First Presbyterian Church; 5300 Main St., Houston, Texas 77004 or to the .
