Frank A. Scafaria, Sr.Oct. 7, 1923 - Dec. 10, 2016WATERVLIET - Frank A. Scafaria, Sr., passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016, in his daughter's home in Watervliet, MI.Frank was born on October 7, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Gaetano and Elizabeth Scafaria. He was the second of five children. On October 13, 1951, Frank married Phyllis Marie (Bartlett). They were married for 58 years before she passed away on July 15, 2009. Frank honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.In 1970 Frank and Phyllis moved with their six children from Cleveland, Ohio, to Niles, Michigan. Frank was the Purchasing Manager at Pawating (Lakeland) Hospital before retiring in 1989. Frank loved to sing and had a beautiful tenor voice. He sang for several years in the church choir, at weddings, and once for the Pope.Frank is survived by his children, Frank (Sally) Scafaria Jr., Nancy (Trevor) Connelly, Diane (Paul) Rifenberg, Mark (Nancy) Scafaria, Carla Scafaria, and Stephen (Deb) Scafaria; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Visitation will be 6-8 PM on Thursday, December 15, 2016, in Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home at 615 E. Main Street, Niles, MI, where a Rosary will be prayed at 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, December 16, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Niles, MI. Private Committal Services will take place at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI, by the United States Army Honor Guard assisted by the Fort Custer Veteran Volunteers.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the .
