Francis Patrick McAllister passed away November 7, 2016 after an extended period of declining health. Frank was born on September 11, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Patrick Francis and Margaret McAuley McAllister. He met the love of his life, Alice Bolger, on July 4, 1951 on Rockaway Beach. They were married November 14, 1953 in Woodside, NY. Frank graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School, and received his BBA in Accounting and his MBA from City College of New York. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the
Korean Conflict as a First Lieutenant, and remained in the Army reserves until 1962. After receiving his BBA, Frank worked for various accounting firms in New York. In 1956, he began a 35-year career with IBM. He served the company in many locations in the New York area until 1980 when he relocated to Charlotte, NC as the manager of Site Accounting Services. Frank retired from IBM in 1991 and embarked on a second career as an accounting teacher. He taught part time for the next 10 years at UNC Charlotte and CPCC. Frank was considered an outstanding teacher by his peers and students. He served in many church, civic, school, and social organizations during his life. Frank was a long-time member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and in earlier years he served on their capital campaigns. He was especially proud of his service with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce as chairman of the Manufacturers Council. Frank was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, godfather and friend who possessed an uncanny ability to connect with all people, young and old. He made friends and strangers alike laugh, think, and feel welcome and valuable. Rooms reliably grew louder with laughter and brighter with smiles in the glow of his quick wit and warmth. Frank will be greatly missed by his daughter, Jeanne Bradley and husband Ray; son, James McAllister and wife Denise; son, Richard McAllister and wife Cecelia; daughter, Allison McAllister and boyfriend, Michael Helbein, all of Charlotte; and son, Kevin McAllister and wife Karen of Morristown, NJ. Memories of Granddad will comfort his six grandchildren: Michael McAllister, Morgan Bradley, Kimberly McAllister, Colin McAllister, Christopher McAllister and Courtney McAllister. Frank is survived by his sister, Peggy McAllister; brother, John McAllister and wife Barbara; and sister-in-law, Mary Frain. Uncle Frank is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Alice Bolger McAllister, his sister, Patricia McAllister Ferris, and brother, David McAllister. Frank had many caregivers over the last few years and his family is truly grateful for the love and care shown to him. A wake will be held Friday, November 11, from 4 to 7 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr, Matthews NC 28104. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 pm at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210. Inurnment in the St. Vincent de Paul columbarium will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Frank's family requests that donations be made to Autism after 18, c/o Margaret Neelsen, 9419 Linden Tree ln, Charlotte, 28277.
