Jackson, FrancesFrances "Fran" Lavinia JacksonFrances "Fran" L. Jackson of Lakewood, WI, passed away Thursday March 2, 2017 at the age of 102. Frances was born on July 29, 1914 in West Chicago IL, to Francis and Ida Smyth. When she was 5 years old her family moved to the Lakewood area where they lived as subsistence farmers. At an early age Frances attended a Normal School for teachers and at just 17 years old began her career teaching in various schools in the area.On August 5, 1939 Frances married James (Sonny) Jackson in Wabeno. Together they managed their farm in Lakewood and raised their two sons, Jim and Lonny, while Fran continued to teach. Following retirement from farming in 1976, Fran and Sonny enjoyed spending part of each year traveling, including camping and fishing in various parts of the United States. Their excursions would include spending time out west with their friends, Jenny and Lloyd Andrews. During these trips Fran was always in charge of the cooking which is understandable considering how well known she was for her cooking and baking skills. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Sonny in 1998, missing him until her last days she told family, "Not a day goes by that I don't think of Grandpa." She was blessed to have spent most of her later years living at her home with her son Lonny who also continued to care for her during her last few years which were spent at the Woodland Village Nursing Home. Frances is survived by her two sons, Lonny of Lakewood and Jim of Talmoon, MN, her brother, Dan Smyth and sister, Betty Betts. She is further survived by five grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Frances is also preceded in death by her parents, brother Hugh Smyth, and sisters Eileen Conley, Mickey Keesler and Junice Peek. Services will be held on Wednesday March 8, 2017 at the St. Mary's of the Lakes Catholic Church, 15232 County Road F, Lakewood, WI, officiated by Father Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of funeral mass at 11:00 am. A luncheon in the basement of the church will follow the burial at the Lakewood Forest Cemetery.
