KINSTON - Frances Carlyle Edwards, 82, of Kinston, died Sunday, September 22, 2013. Frances was born on February 28, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Levi J. and Effie Grady Carlyle of La Grange. Frances graduated from La Grange High School and married the late Cornell Edwards, Sr. in 1948. They lived together in Kinston for 51 years until his death in 1999. Frances earned an AA Degree in Nursing at Wayne Community College. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse III at Lenoir Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1994. Frances was honored as the "Nurse of the Year" in 1993, the only LPN to receive that honor at LMH. Frances was a faithful, long-time member of Bethel F. W. Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Her many hobbies included traveling with Cornell, gardening, lap quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, oil painting, basket weaving, ceramics, and most recently, reading Betty Neal novels. She especially enjoyed growing orchids, African violets, and roses. Frances is survived by Four children, Susan Edwards Moore and husband Anthony, Judy Edwards Hill, Cornell Edwards Jr. and wife Sharon, and Dennis Edwards and wife Pat, all of Kinston; nine grandchildren, Steven Moore and wife Kelee, Jared Edwards and wife Sarah, Matthew Edwards and wife Beth, all of Kinston, Jennifer Moore McMahon and husband Jeffrey, of Huntersville, N.C., Brian Edwards and wife Jenny, of La Grange, Clay Edwards and wife Andrea, of Chinquapin, N.C., Amy Hill Darling and husband Michael, of Valle Crusis, N.C., Adam Hill and wife Kayla, of Boone, N.C., and Beth Edwards Barnhill and husband Ti, of Albany, Ga.; nine great-grandchildren, Courtney Lanier, Caroline Moore, Katelyn McMahon, Joshua McMahon, Emily McMahon, Julia Barnhill, Lily Barnhill, Brennan Edwards, and Layla Edwards; three sisters, Grace Herring and husband Egbert, and Sybil Killette and husband Robie, all of La Grange, and Clemmie White of Richlands, N.C. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Bethel F.W.B. Church, 1936 Banks School Road, Kinston, NC with the Rev. Chris Truett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services at the church and at other times at 3064 Elm Grove Road, Kinston. Burial services will be held at 11 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston on Thursday, September 26, 2013. Flowers are welcome or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel F.W.B. Church.
