Fay Spencer WitkinBeaufortFay Spencer Witkin, 73, of Beaufort, SC and mother of Dr. Philip Spencer Witkin (Sharon) passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.A Memorial Service will be held at The Parish Church of Saint Helena on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11 AM with a reception at the church hall to follow the service.Fay was born on April 19, 1943 in Columbia, North Carolina to the late Albert Spencer and Rachel Combs Spencer. She graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Education. She went on to teach school in Hampton, Virginia where she met her first husband, Philip Michael Witkin.A professional move brought her family to Greenville, SC. She lived in Greenville for 20 years. Initially, Mrs. Witkin spent time raising her son and later became an AFLAC insurance agent until she retired in 2011. She met her second husband, Lon D. Richards, while working with AFLAC insurance. They resided in Greenville 1991-1996.Fay moved to the Lowcountry in 1997. She enjoyed the salt air and marsh views which reminded her of childhood in Eastern North Carolina.Surviving in addition to her son, Philip Spencer (Sharon) Witkin of Walterboro, SC; are two grandchildren, Philip Michael Witkin, II and Samuel Albert Witkin.
