Florence Hughes (nee Ovard) of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Hugh Hughes, passed away on Thursday, September 15th, 2016 at the age of 101 years. Florence was born on November 29th, 1914 at Coaldale, Alberta. She was the fifth daughter of seven girls and two boys born to George and Emma Ovard. Her parents farmed in the Coaldale Area. Florence took her first years of school in the Crystal Lake district. Her parents later moved to Magrath. She was united in marriage to Hugh Hughes in 1940. They lived in the Innisfail area where they raised their family. She was a member of the historical society when it first started and did a lot of work to help get the first building moved. Florence enjoyed doing ceramic and lapidary for some years. She was a member of the Senior Saranaders. Florence loved to tend to her flowers. She had many friends and will be missed by all. Florence leaves to cherish her memory one son, Alfred (Jamie) Hughes of Bowden, Alberta; one daughter, Marie Parahoniak of Medicine Hat; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, June Clifton of Taber, Alberta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Hugh; her parents, George and Emma Ovard; one son, Dorin (Ann) Hughes; one daughter, Carol Kelly; one daughter-in-law, Marilee Hughes; one son-in-law, Ray Parahoniak; two brothers; and five sisters. The Funeral Service was held at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Innisfail, Alberta, on Friday, September 23rd, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop Paul Mower officiating.
