EVELYN ROSE WHITNEY, 86 FREEPORT - Evelyn Rose Whitney, 86, of Freeport, and formerly of Pearl City, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013, at her home with her family at her side. She was born on April 18, 1927, in Woodstock, IL to Walter and Tillie (Luders) Geske. She was a 1945 graduate of Woodstock Community High School. She lived in Woodstock for 24 years. She was employed at the McHenry County Treasurer's office for two years, and at the office of Dr. Henry Sandren and Dr. John Tambone for four years. She had worked at the Harvard Hospital as a nurse's aid and as a secretary at Harvard Junior High School. Evelyn married Rev. Milton L. Whitney at Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock on June 10, 1951, by Rev. Roger Kaufman. They have been married for 62 years. Evelyn was an avid Packer fan. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Freeport, and a member of the Culture Club, led Bible studies, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of the Mary Martha Circle and Ladies Aid, played piano at nursing homes, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and Scrabble. She formerly worked at the Pearl City Library. Surviving are her husband, Rev. Milton L. Whitney; her children, Mark (Patricia) Whitney, Joan (Kim) Stewart, Janice Whitney Kniss; her grandchildren, Jared Whitney, Jordan Whitney, Peter (Jennifer) VanHorn, Timothy Kruse, Karel (Jared) Leiper, and Daniel (Cara) Kniss; great- grandchildren, Zachary VanHorn, Alexander Kniss, Colin Kniss, and Bethany Leiper; and one stepsister, Blanche Clark Desmond. Preceding her in death were her parents. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Pearl City. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd. in Freeport.
