JACKSONVILLE | Eva Jennette Smith died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Jacksonville, NC at the age of 75. She courageously fought ALS for eight months, never losing her spirit or faith.Eva Jennette Smith was born on December 4, 1939, in Duplin County to Troy and Eva Futral. She married her devoted husband, James ""JC"" Smith Jr. on June 27, 1957, at Advent Christian Church in Potters Hill, NC. During their 58 years they raised three children in Jacksonville, NC while her husband worked as law enforcement at Jacksonville Police Department and Onslow County Sheriff's Office. Jennette was a home maker and worked many years at A & P Grocery Store and Moore Buick Pontiac until her retirement. After her retirement she enjoyed many trips to the beach and mountains. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church and had an unwavering faith in God. She was an active member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and made many charitable contributions. She thought her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and possessed qualities we should all try to imitate.A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Brookwood Baptist Church with burial following at Onslow Memorial Park. Pastor Richard ""Ricky"" Beacham will officiate the ceremony. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11 a.m., before the service.She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Brooks of Jacksonville, NC; her father, Troy Hill Futral; her mother, Eva Houston Futral of Potters Hill, NC; her sister, Gladys Quinn of Comfort, NC; and her brother, Horace Futral of Potters Hill, NC. Survivors include her husband, James ""JC"" Smith Jr.; her children, Darrell Lynn Smith and his wife, Donna; Kenneth James Smith and his wife Rhonda, all of Jacksonville, NC; her sisters, Doris Stiles, Arlene Brown, Lillie Mae Marshburn; and brother, Johnny Futral, all of Potters Hill, NC and Faye Kennedy of Pink Hill, NC; her grandkids include Heather and her husband, Thomas Kreh; Derek Smith and his wife, Stephanie, Amanda Smith, Kaila Smith and Landon Smith, all of Jacksonville, NC; and seven great-grandchildren; and her fur baby Scooby; along with countless other family and friends whom were blessed to know her. The family of Eva Jennette Smith would like to thank everyone for the love and support shown to us during the loss of our loved one.
