Esther Hill Brown, 91, of Rockwell, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, in Salisbury surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the Carl J. Brown. Esther was born on Feb. 14, 1925, to the late Joseph A. and Josephine (Isenhour) Hill in Rowan County. She attended Rockwell School and worked as an Inspector for Rowan Industries for most of her life. She was a lifetime member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Gold Hill. Family was very important to her and she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, James, Frank and Irvin Hill. Esther is survived by one son, Wayne (Charlene) Whitley of Rockwell; three daughters, Nancy (Steve) Taylor of Gold Hill, Betty (Lloyd) Bell of Rockwell, and Judy (Mike) Drye of Rockwell; two step-sons, Larry and Johnny Brown of Rockwell; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation and Service: A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 6-8 p.m., at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m., at Liberty United Methodist Church in Gold Hill, with Rev. Charlie Curtis, pastor, and Rev. Brad Treece officiating. Burial will follow the service in Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell. Memorials: Memorials may be directed to Liberty United Methodist Church, 3940 Liberty Rd, Gold Hill, NC 28071.
