Sielaff, Ernst C. Ernst C Sielaff, age 89, died on September 15th, 2017, in Gilbert, Arizona. Ernst was born on October 6, 1927 in Whitehall, Wisconsin to parents Ernst A, and Clara. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1954 after serving in the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas between 1946 and 1949. He married Marcia May in 1951. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1960 where he opened Budget Rent A Car, only the 2nd one in the United States. He sold his interests in the business and retired in 1989. In 2009 they moved to Gilbert, Arizona. Shakespeare wrote, "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts." Ernie was such a man. As a businessman he was known for integrity and acumen. Family and friends will remember him as a wise counselor. He was an enthusiastic camper and skilled photographer of the Southwestern scenes he loved. A member of the Verde Vaqueros, he enjoyed playing cowboy. He was an avid reader, book collector, philatelist, and history buff, specializing in the American Civil War and Mexican Revolutionary history. He was a card player par excellence with a particular passion for Hearts and Bridge. His quick mind, and amazingly retentive memory, made him an eloquent and knowledgeable commentator on many topics. His comedic persona came forth in a wonderfully puckish sense of humor and a myriad of colorful expressions. But above all, he was a loving husband and devoted father. He is survived by Marcia, his wife of 66 years, three sons and their wives; Erich and Sandi, Brandt and Renee, and Martin and Rose. Also 9 Grandchildren; Brian, Rebekah, Nicholas, Russell, Zachary, Alex, Amalie, Claire, and Matthew, and 3 Great Grandchildren; Chloe, Erich and Ella. A funeral is scheduled for Ernst on Saturday, Sept 23rd at 11am at Messinger Mortuary at Indian School and Miller Road in Scottsdale. A luncheon reception will be held immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Goldwater Institute,( https://goldwaterinstitute.org/en/donate/) or Arizona Paralyzed Veterans of America http://www.azpva.org/assisting-our-chapter/
