Eric Franz Feichtinger, 67, died of complications from surgery on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 in Anchorage.Frank was born on Sept. 4, 1949 in Rochester, New York to Carl and Pauline Feichtinger as the eldest of three children. He was raised in Irondequoit, New York where he enjoyed hunting and camping with the Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and earned the Order of the Arrow award. He was active in Army ROTC and graduated from Rutgers University in 1971. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army and proceeded to Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. He achieved the rank of 1st Lt., Reconnaissance Platoon Company E, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry, US Army. In 1973, he led the platoon through an uncharted portion Arctic National Wildlife Refuge over the Brooks Range with 22 men to gather field information about how well Army personnel can deal with arctic terrain and conditions. He always said it was the biggest adventure of his life. After completing his active duty commitment, Frank transferred to the Alaska National Guard rising to the rank of captain through 10 years of service. After his active duty military service, Frank attended the Alaska State Trooper Academy in Sitka and was posted in Anchorage. Frank also worked at McLaughlin Youth Center and the Anchorage Police Department as a detective in the missing and exploited child unit, and was known for his expertise in that field. After leaving APD he was a private investigator for his own company, Arrowtec Inc., until his retirement. Frank achieved his dream of living next to his favorite place, Kenai Lake, with his move to Cooper Landing in 2015, and found happiness and great friendships with an inspiring view. Frank was an avid photographer and collected model cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Carl Feichtinger, and brother in-law Paul Gervais. He is survived by his loving children, son Matthew Feichtinger and Callie Smith of Eagle River, and daughter Katie Feichtinger and Dan Osborn of Cooper Landing; ex-wife Jackie Feichtinger of Eagle River; sister Paula Gervais of Sacramento, California; and his brother Kurt Feichtinger in North Carolina. He also leaves great friends and extended family in Anchorage, Cooper Landing, Montana and Missouri.Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 at Richardson National Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held this spring in Cooper Landing.
