Elroy Meyer, 91, died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 14, 1920 on the family homestead near Hammer, Roberts County, South Dakota, to Fred and Anna Meyer. He attended country schools through the 10th grade and then worked with his father and brothers on the family farm. He joined the US Army in Sept. 1944 and was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946. He returned to Sisseton where he met Grace Aas. They were married on June 6, 1949. In 1963 he moved his family to Ellensburg, Washington, worked for Brad & Burke for a few years, and then became the sheet metal fabricator at Twin City Foods where he retired in 1982. Elroy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Anna Meyer, brothers Louie and Herb, and sister Lucille Thelin. He is survived by his wife, Grace; brother Butch Meyer of Sisseton, sister Bernice Rolstad of Bloomington, MN; daughters Valerie Carpenter (Jack) of Ellensburg, Susan Evans (Jeff) of Friday Harbor, WA, and Donna Meyer of Ellensburg; 5 granddaughters, Chelsea Jamerson (Jeremy), Heidi Evans, Lindsey Allred (Cody), Leah Evans, and Sarah Griffin; and two great grandchildren, Madilynn and Tyler Jamerson. A memorial reception will be held on October 8, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Valerie and Jack Carpenter, 1406 Thayer Ave., Ellensburg, WA.
