Ellen Louise Wilkins Gourley, age 88, of Cambridge Springs, Pa., passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2016, at Brevillier Village Nursing Home, in Erie, after a brief fight with cancer. As a Christian, she was ready to meet Jesus and to be with Robert, her late husband. Ellen was born on August 4, 1928, in Union City, to the late Clifton and Arlene Wilkins. She was a 1946 graduate of Bloomfield High School in Lincolnville, Pa. On June 27, 1947, she married Robert Henry Gourley in Little Cooley, Pa. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1995. She had attended the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church of Cambridge Springs, Pa., and Lyona Bible Church in Guys Mills, Pa. She was a farmer's wife and was very proud of the dairy farm that she and Robert owned. Ellen was a hard worker and knew how to balance farming duties while raising four children, tending to a huge garden, and keeping a spotless house. She also loved ceramics, latch hooking, and especially jigsaw puzzles. She was devoted to her husband and children, and was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Ellen is survived by one daughter, JoAnne Willison and husband Jeffrey of Meadville, Pa. She also has three sons who survive: Gary Gourley and wife Dorothy of Union City, Pa., George Gourley and wife Judy of Mentor, Ohio, and Myron Gourley and wife Debra of Harborcreek, Pa. Ellen has seven grandchildren: Debra Brown and husband Tim, Daniel Gourley and wife Jennifer, Jesse Lavery and wife Eryn, Wesley Gourley, Jenny Lavery, Craig Gourley and wife Jen, and Chad Gourley. She also has several great-grandchildren: Tara Brown, Sadie Brown, Hayley Brown, Alexandria Gourley, Rylie Soboski, Keith Gourley, Cash Lavery, Ella Lavery, Quinn Lavery, and Olivia Gourley. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven brothers and sisters: Charles Wilkins, Dorothy Watson, Ruth Gourley, Margaret Smith, Lois Shreve, Harold Wilkins, and Robert Wilkins. Friends and family may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, PA 16403, on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Van Matre Funeral Home at 10 a.m., on November 10, 2016 with Pastor Glen VanCise, of Chapmanville Community Church, officiating.
