Elizabeth RothMANSFIELD: Elizabeth Roth, 94, of Mansfield died peacefully on December 2, 2016. She was born on March 1, 1922 in Sidski Banovci,Yugoslavia, to Johann and Phillipine Mauer. She spent the first 22 years of her life in the small German community of Sidski Banovci among an extended family. She often told stories with vivid detail of life before the war. In 1944, like many Germans in Yugoslavia, her family was forced to flee. They arrived in Austria to settle in Hochburg Ach for 11 years. There she met her husband, Henry Roth, and married in 1950. In 1955, they immigrated to Mansfield to join the Roth family here. Elizabeth left home at age 14 to work in households in Vukovar, and once resettled in Austria, and then Mansfield, she continued working in many households. Elizabeth was a woman of great strength, faith and love of family. Up to the end she was able to recall the names, birthdates and other special occasions of her extended family. She was special to all of her family in Austria, Germany, and Hamilton, Ontario, and her family and many friends in Mansfield. She was an excellent cook and baker and greatly enjoyed sharing the food she made with others. She was a dedicated member of the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Monika Roth and partner Carl Burr of Ithaca, NY and Trudy Roth and husband Mark Rebeck of Greensboro, NC. In Mansfield, she has three nephews - Robert (Judy), Earl (Jean), and Harold (Judi) Roth and their families. In Europe and Canada she has twelve nieces and nephews and their children with whom she has kept in close contact over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Ronald E. Daley. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.
