Elaine LaFaire HowardApril 13, 1936 - September 9, 2014Elaine LaFaire Howard, 78, of Fruitland, Idaho, passed away on September 9, 2014 after her lovely, grace-filled life was cut short by pancreatic cancer. She was home, surrounded by her loving husband and children, when she passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20th, at the Ontario Church of the Nazarene at 1131 Alameda Drive in Ontario, Oregon. Arrangements are with the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Elaine was born on April 13, 1936 in Emmett, Idaho, to Earl and Helen Moyer, only nine days after the birth of her future husband, Walter A. "Wally" Howard, Jr., whose family lived three miles down the same road. She grew up in Emmett and graduated from Emmett High School in 1954. Elaine shared her life with her high school sweetheart, Wally. They married on September 2, 1955, and lived throughout Idaho while Wally worked for Idaho First National Bank. They were dedicated members of the Church of the Nazarene and served the church everywhere they lived in youth leadership, missionary programs, and church board positions. They were also very involved in their local communities: at one time, Elaine held the position of Jayceettes President at the same time Wally was President of the Jaycees. Elaine joined Wally in banking when they launched Treasure Valley Bank in Fruitland, Idaho in 1974 (currently KeyBank). Her background in banking and finance included education from Pacific Coast Banking School and Northwest Intermediate Banking School. She was Executive Vice President of Treasure Valley Bank, Vice President of Renaissance Holding Company, President of Orchard Bank, and most recently Senior Vice President of Panhandle State Bank (parent company of Intermountain Community Bank), where she retired in 2011. All Elaine's co-workers and employees looked to her for leadership and guidance, and loved her dearly. After retirement, Elaine and Wally relished time spent with friends and family. They seldom missed a grandchild's sporting or school event. Grandma Elaine's love and support were always deeply felt and cherished by her children and grandchildren. Notorious for her gracious hospitality and excellent cooking, Elaine made all guests feel welcome and loved. Their home was a constant gathering place for the Howard clan. Elaine is survived by her husband Wally Howard; five children, Rick Howard (Gayle), Randy Howard, Sandee Rentfro (Jason), Polly Owens, and Coline Huff; twelve grandchildren, Zach Howard (Ashley), Cortney Osborne (Scott), Katie Snyder (James), Caleb Howard, Grace Olmstead (Eli), J.W. Howard, Johnny Howard, Sammie Rentfro, Spencer Rentfro, Drew Huff, Ava Huff, and Isaac Huff; two great grandchildren, Noah Howard and Nolan Osborne; and four siblings, Doris Newell (Manny) of Montour, Floyd Moyer (Linda) of Spirit Lake, Donna Denney (Lawerence) of Midvale, and Roger Moyer (Stacey) of Spokane, Washington. She dedicated her life to serving and loving her family, and we will never forsake gathering together, carrying on the traditions and the "family chaos" she always told us she loved and savored.
