Dr. Edward James Williams Dr. Edward "Ed" James Williams, 90, of Lafayette passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Elizabeth East. He was born on June 25, 1926 in Denver, CO to the late Carl B. and Anna M. (Hayes) Williams. Dr. Williams served in the U.S. Army, specifically the Chemical Corps during the
Korean Conflict. He attended St. Edwards University and Regis College before receiving his Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was an All-American football player. He earned his Ph.D from
Purdue University, and post doctorate from Marquette University. Dr. Williams married Catherine "Kitty" J. Jansen on April 23, 1960 at St. Lawrence Church. He taught Chemistry and coached football and baseball at St. Norbert's College before becoming employed by Purdue University, as a Biopharmaceutical Chemist. Dr. Williams worked in teaching and research at Purdue, where he was the Assistant Director of the Mass Spectrometry Lab. He also worked as the Research Director of a small drug development laboratory. Ed enjoyed Westerns, classical music, writing poetry and was an avid sports fan, with great enthusiasm for the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. He was dedicated to working on the Central Catholic Baseball field and enjoyed helping with the Colt World Series. He could often be seen wearing CC or Purdue shirts/hats or sporting his favorite green Notre Dame jacket and hat. He was a devout Catholic and very much loved and was loved by his family.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Catherine "Kitty" Williams of Lafayette, his daughter, Monica T. (husband: Michael) Ellerman of West Lafayette, his son, Timothy B. (wife: Dr. Tina Wismer) Williams of Monticello, IL and his brother, Jack Williams of Lexington, KY. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Christopher R. (wife: Allison) Williams of Charleston, IL, Sheena Gregory (companion: Christopher LaMar) of Lafayette, Samantha Gregory (companion: Austin Boaz) of West Lafayette, IN and 6 great grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Katherine Williams.A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 6th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend a memorial lunch in the St. Lawrence Social Hall immediately following the mass.
