Edith Mae Young COLUMBIA - Edith Mae Young, 89, of Columbia, SC passed away February 23, 2016 at Southwinds Assisted Living in Ridgeway, South Carolina. She was born on November 17, 1926 in Columbia, SC to the late Daniel Bynum Jr. and Eva Mae Coward Cotton and raised in Eastover, SC. Edith was a kind and gentle soul. She was nurturing and no one ever left her house hungry. Edith was an amazing cook and a county fair award winning baker. Her homemade meals were a treasure to family and friends. Edith was also an avid sports fan. Whether it be the Gamecocks or her Atlanta Braves, she enjoyed them all. Edith loved the times that she could be with her family. Known as Nan to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she had a special place in her heart for all of them. One only had to enter her home before they were directed to sit on down and have a glass of tea. Her giving spirit will be missed by those she loved and those who loved her. Edith is survived by her children, Harry A. Young (Susan), Daniel C. Young (Sue), Ronny L. Young (Mary Ann), Tommy R. Young (Kandi); and grandchildren, David A. Young (Tracy), Melissa Y. Cahoon (Randy), Emily Y. Pauley (Doug), Brian J. Young (Conni), Chris L. Young (Murray), Michael L. Young, Ricky A. Young and Tanner L. Young. She also leaves behind eleven great grandchildren and one more on the way. She is additionally survived by her brother, Tommy Bynum Cotton (Shirley); and cousins, Sybil C. Eastman and Carolyn Y. King. Many other nieces, nephews, and cousins will cherish her memories. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Harry L. Young and two infants who passed too soon; brothers, Daniel Ray Cotton and John Robert Cotton; and sisters, Sallie Emma Cotton and Lucille C. Wilson. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11 AM with Pastor Mike Morales officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
