This obituary is administered by:
Edith LindblomWest Des MoinesEdith Carey Lindblom passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in her own home in West Des Moines. She was born on the family farm in southern Iowa on July 31 1918, daughter of Jasper and Maggie (Snyder) Carey. After high school and following her mother's death, she moved to Des Moines, IA to attend Beauty School. She and her roommate Evelyn remained lifelong friends and when they were both widows they traveled to Hawaii for their greatest vacation. On a New Year's Eve, at a local bar she met a young man, who under the influence announced she would be his bride. She never thought she would see him again, but he showed up the next day and everyday thereafter. Edith loved being a beauty operator but she married a chef with a dream and soon they were the owners of Tiny's Horse and Buggy in Adel, IA. Edith became hostess, waitress, and assistant chef, this was not her dream job, but Tiny was her dream man. They ran the restaurant until Tiny's death. Her final career was her favorite one housekeeper for the priests at St. Pius Catholic Church. On October 1, 1987, Edith retired and moved into her final home at Valley View West Apartments. These ladies were like college girls, ordering pizza, Saturday bingo, potlucks, birthday parties and many bus trips. Edith lived in the same apartment for 30 years and it was her dream to die in her own home. As her health began to fade, realizing that dream would be a miracle however Edith got her final wish through the miracle of friendship and hospice. Her friends at Valley View cooked for her and kept a close eye on her and Thelma Street visited daily. Edith was short on stature, barely 5 feet tall but long on character, appreciation and strength. She lived through the depression, World War II, the death of her most dear parents, sister, husband and only son. Relatives remaining include; Kenny and Sheila Johnson, Linda Lindblom, and Helen Newberg.A special thank you from Edith goes out to Tina Chambers, Thema, Katie and Kelly. Memorials may be sent to Mercy Hospice.A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Valley View Apartments 1800 36th St. West, Des Moines, IA Monday October 16, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.Written with respect Diane Diamond.
