Lichty, Jr. Edgar H. Age 87 Edgar H. Lichty Jr., 87, of Huddleston, VA, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Friday, October 21stat Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on Saturday, August 3rd, 1929 in Bethlehem, PA, a son of the late Edgar Henry Lichty Sr. and Evelyn Mae Fehnel Lichty. Ed was a retired Composing Room Manager of The Washington Star,subsequently The Washington Times and was an active Masonic member. Ed was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where he started his printing career with his father. He married Evelyn Jean Blanchard on August 9th, 1950, and was married to her for over 66 years. Soon after he was drafted to serve in the
Korean War in the Army Corps of Engineers. Upon returning, he moved to the D.C. Metro area where he continued his printing career at the Government Printing Office. He would soon move to The Washington Star where he worked for 26 years. Ed helped start The Washington Times and worked there for 10 years before retiring to Smith Mountain Lake, VA where he played in the Kazim band for 22 years. He was a Master Mason at the District of Columbia, Grand Naval Lodge No. 4 attaining 32nddegree status, with memberships in Shriners International, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Almas Temple. Ed is survived by his wife, Jean Lichty; daughter Pam Floyd and son-in-law R. Phillip Floyd, of Huddleston VA, daughter Judy Hess and son-in-law Jim Hess of Laurel MD. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Christy Hogan & husband Brian of Bristow VA, Sean Floyd and his wife Denise of Huddleston VA, Tricia Floyd & Andrew Floyd of Huddleston VA, Meagan Drew and husband Sam of Austin Texas, Zachary Hess, and Jason Hess of Laurel MD, his two great-grandchildren, Addison Jean Hogan and Eva Marie Floyd as well as his brother, Jacob Lichty & his wife Kay in Allentown, PA. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Kazim Shriners, 628 Campbell Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24014. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 27th, 2016 at Staunton Baptist Church, 15267 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA and a funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Grant Harbridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with a post funeral reception in the Church Hall afterwards.
