ELLYN DEIRDRE MULRENIN  

A longtime resident of northern Virginia, died suddenly on December 12, 2016, at her home in Falls Church, VA. She was 67 years of age.

 

Ellyn was born on July 3, 1949, in Cornwall, NY, to the late Edward F. and Lillian C. Mulrenin. She is survived by her loving siblings, Maureen Pallazza, Kathleen Downs, Edward Mulrenin, and Paul Mulrenin; in-laws and nephews and grandnieces. She grew up in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, graduated from Mt. Saint Mary's College in Newburgh, NY, and retired from the U.S. Government in 2014 after a long career, first with the Internal Revenue Service, and then as an auditor for the Department of Navy in Washington, DC.

 

Ellyn lived a full life and had many interests and passions, including traveling, tutoring children, chess, and genealogy, and she was an avid reader. She also derived much joy over the years from her family's companion dogs. She had a special talent in meeting complete strangers and becoming fast friends with them. Most of all, Ellyn's uniqueness was her ready sense of humor and her unbounded generosity.

 

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ellyn at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3305 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church, VA, on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at a date to be determined in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY.

 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends contribute in Ellyn's memory to St. Anthony Church "to help the poor" or to a .
