DWANE R. KERNDwane R. Kern, 83, of Nampa, Idaho, died Friday, April 3, 2015.Dwane was born on September 27, 1931 to Walter and Beth Rice Kern in Wilsonville, Nebraska. Dwane helped his folks farm in Nebraska until 1948 when the family moved to Idaho. He attended schools in Wilsonville and then graduated from high school in Kuna, Idaho. He enrolled at the College of Idaho in September of 1949 and then attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon for one year. Dwane served four years in the United States Air Force and after an honorable discharge returned to the College of Idaho and received a triple degree in business, economics and accounting in 1959. Upon graduation he received the "Wall Street Journal Outstanding Student Award". He did graduate work at the University of Omaha majoring in College Business Management.Dwane's nearly 40 years in the business world was spent in the Boise area. He worked for the Idaho First National Bank in Boise, Idaho Creameries, Ernst & Ernst CPA, Boise Junior College, Boise College, and Boise State College, Wedgewood Homes, CSHQA Architects and the Boise Orthopedic Clinic where he retired in December of 1996.Dwane was a strong supporter of Boise, the University and the State of Idaho. He was a member of the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho, the Greater Boise Chamber of Commerce, serving as a director from 1973 to 1976 and Treasurer in 1975 and 1976. He also served on the Boise City Aesthetics Review Board, was a Charter Member of the Gem State Kiwanis Club and served as a member of Gideons International. He also was a past member of the National Medical Group Management Association, the Idaho Medical Group Management Association, "Bones", a national organization for administrators of orthopedic clinics, the Briarhill Home Owners' Association, a Board Member of the American Bank of Commerce, the National Association of Accountants, the Association of School Business Officers, the Western Association of College and University Business Officers, the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the Professional Services Management Association.Dwane became a Boise State Bronco Booster in 1960 and attended all but eight home football games in the last 45-50 years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all sports. In 1968 he was a Charter Member of the Bronco Athletic Association, served as its President in 1974-1975 and served as the Budget Director from 1976-1999.Dwane was a lifetime member of the Bronco Athletic Association and has set up an Athletic Endowment Fund "The Dwane R. Kern Family Endowment Fund" for the support of athletic excellence at Boise State University.Dwane was a Christian and served in many capacities in the various churches he belonged to over his lifetime.Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Frank Wallace of Boise, Idaho, Deborah and Ralph Basile of Aurora, Oregon; two step-children, Debi (Ed) Redmond of Nampa, Idaho and Dirk Steele of Kent, Washington; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Dwane was preceded in death by his father Walter in 1990; his mother Beth in 1999; brother Dwight Kern in 2007; and his first wife Deloris in 1993. A graveside service will be held at Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise, Idaho on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Following will be a light lunch at Goldcrest Communities Clubhouse, 1604 W. Orchard Avenue, Nampa, Idaho at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials be made to the "Dwane R. Kern Family Endowment Fund", Bronco Athletic Association, Boise State University, 1910 University Drive, Boise, Idaho 83725. Arrangements are by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 467-7300
