This obituary is administered by:
Dwaine Edward GanyoNovember 12, 1929 - August 3, 2016Dwaine Edward Ganyo was born on November 12, 1929 in McDougal Township, Minnesota, the eldest child of Levi and Marie Ganyo. Dwaine's school years were spent in a class of 4 until his family moved to Warroad, MN where he was the Captain of the basketball team his senior year. Dwaine served 2 years in the Army and earned his BA, MA and EdD from the University of Minnesota. He began his teaching career at Norwalk High School where he led teams to the California state championship in football and basketball. Dwaine met the lovely Joan Moushey on the dance floor at a coaching convention and they hit it off. They married on July 28, 1962 in Columbus, OH.Dwaine and Joan had 3 children-Patrick, Margaret and Michael. In 1970, the family moved back to the Midwest, eventually settling in Montevideo, MN. Throughout his career, Dwaine served as Principal of several high schools and taught for the College of St. Scholastica. When he and Joan divorced, Dwaine moved to San Antonio, TX, where he was quite popular with the ladies. Dwaine enjoyed competition, especially tennis, basketball, chess and pool. If you beat him, you knew it was a well-deserved win.Dwaine loved a cold beer and good conversation. He once talked with a guy for a couple hours, only to learn later that his new buddy was Evel Knievel. Dwaine got his patience from his Dad, who, on breaks from his work with the railroad, would feed birds that flew down and perched on his hand. Dwaine enjoyed singing a good loud hymn. Anything involving marching saints or Christian soldiers meant a few heads were sure to turn in Mass that day.Dwaine passed away on August 3, 2016, and is survived by his sister Joy and brothers Roger and David; his first wife Joan Moushey; their children Pat (Deb), Omaha, NE, Margaret/Peggy (Mike Denning), Chubbuck, ID and Mike (Brenda), Brooklyn Park, MN; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Ruby, Dawna and Ann.
