(Godfrey) MarkeyAugust 30, 1925 - February 20, 2017YorkDorothy Jane Markey, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 9:28 a.m. at her apartment at Country Meadows at Leaders Heights. She was a loving and devoted wife of the late Ralph Markey who passed away in 1994.Dorothy was born on August 30, 1925 in York. She was the daughter of the late Cletus and Ethel M. (Chronister) Godfrey. She was a woman of strong faith who trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Dorothy was life member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren and attending church was a very important part of her life. She was a very loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and most recently a Great- Great-Grandmother.She is survived by her daughter, Diane, who she loved shopping and having lunch with every week and her son-in-law, Scott Pittman who always called her by her middle name, Janey, which she loved. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leigh Ness and her husband, Brian and Corey Hamberger and his wife, Tina, all of Dallastown; her great-grandchildren, Brittani Creakman and Baily May; and her great-great-grandchildren, twin boys, Joshua and Jayden Markle, born August 10, 2016, making us a five generation family.Before becoming ill two years ago, Dorothy went out every single day to run errands, have lunch and always have her ice cream. Monday through Friday she enjoyed Dairy Queen and Saturday was Mack's. Her love of ice cream even made it to the newspaper.Viewing for Dorothy will be on Friday, February 24 from 10 to 11 a.m. at New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Road, York, PA 17402. A Service of Honor and Praise for Dorothy will begin at 11 a.m. at the church with her pastor, Wayne Hartman, officiating. Interment will be private, following the service in Stump's Union Cemetery beside the church. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, will be assisting the family with the arrangements.In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make a contribution in memory of Dorothy to The Lehman Center, 400 W. Market Street, York, PA 17401 or to Grane Hospice, 3501 Concord Road, York, PA 17402.Dorothy, Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma and Great-Great- Grandma will be greatly missed. She brought so much joy into our lives. God looked upon his garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw her tired face.
