TUSCALOOSA – Dorothy Marie Collins Noland, age 68, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died December 9, 2016, at UAB in the Palliative Care unit. She suffered a stroke on December 5, 2016. She was born on November 9, 1948 at DCH.She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Stancil and Virginia May Collins.She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dennis Reid Noland; children, Jennifer Noland Edgeworth (Shane) and Jeffery Scott Noland (Leigh); grandchildren, Rebecca Noland, Kelsey Noland and Virginia and Madaline Edgeworth; siblings, Jean Taylor (Jerry), Katie Shelby (Lewis) and Pat Wolfenbarger (Coy); sister-in-law, Gaile Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as first cousins. Dorothy dedicated her life to her children, family and community as a loving homemaker. She was involved in PTA and a substitute teacher at Matthews Elementary School. She volunteered at Yellow Creek Volunteer Fire Department and served on their Board of Directors.She enjoyed scrapbooking, Alabama football, fishing and reading. She graduated with the Class of 1968 from Tuscaloosa County High.Honorary pallbearers are all of her nieces, nephews and first cousins, Lake Nicol and Yellow Creek community, the staff at UAB Neurology Intensive Care unit and UAB Palliative Care unit.Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2123 Sellers Land, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today, December 12, 2016, at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Albert Lyles officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
