Dorothy Elizabeth "Dot" King ScottWest Monroe - Dorothy Elizabeth "Dot" King Scott passed away at The West Monroe Guest House on September 13, 2017. After 98 years on this earth she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Monroe. Visitation will be in the Church Parlor from 12:00 pm to service time. Rev. Lynn Malone and Rev. J. Roddy Taylor will officiate. Dot was born on February 19, 1919 in Fort Necessity, Louisiana to John Samuel King and Henrietta Nugent King. She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas until the age of 12 and then moved to West Monroe, Louisiana. This era starting at age 12 had the most significant impact on her due to the death of her mother, thereafter, living with her Aunt, the late Mrs. Carey Holmes. In 1936, Dot graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and in 1940 she graduated from Louisiana State Normal School which is now Northwestern State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education where she was a member of Sigma, Sigma, Sigma Sorority for 78 years. Dot taught first grade at Wisner Elementary and in 1943 married Eugene B. Scott and continued teaching first grade at Greenwood Elementary, Fondale, and Central Grammar School. In 1950 she and her husband started Scott's Flower Shop. Dot was a life member of the PTA , the Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority and the first president and charter member of Glenwood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary of West Monroe. She was a very active member and yearly officer of the American Mothers Association and was honored in 1970 as State Mother of Louisiana. Dot enjoyed reading and reviewing books as a member of the Twin City Study Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 75 years, a member of United Methodist Women and Anna Gray Noe Sunday school class. Dot so enjoyed organizing club teas and her church "Lunch Bunch Ladies." Her joy in life was traveling with her husband Eugene and two sons to the beach and Sunday boating after church. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Benson Scott, daughter-in-law Marilyn Bedgood Scott, and her sister Johnnie King Adams.She is survived by her sons Dr. E. Benson Scott, II, Dr. L. King Scott and wife Kari Plaschke Scott, her grandchildren and spouses, Luke Scott and Rachael , Ashley Scott Hodge and Jay, and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Grace Scott and Taylor Elizabeth Hodge. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of The West Monroe Guest House.
