Dorothy D. RoopGermantown, TNDorothy Danenhower Roop, 91, of Germantown, TN passed away on March 30, 2017 with her family by her side. Dorothy (DeDe) was born on December 31, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DeDe met Daniel Morehead Roop (Dan) at Bucknell College where she majored in Economics. DeDe and Dan were married on September 11, 1946. DeDe was an avid swimmer and tennis player, practiced and taught yoga, played bridge in numerous clubs, traveled extensively, and sailed with Dan at Arkabutla Lake as well as along the Maine coast in their beloved sailboat, Chibaloc. DeDe loved to read and especially enjoyed mysteries. She was an active member of the Unitarian Church of the River and was proud to have been a board member of MIFA, the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association. DeDe served as a docent at the Memphis Zoo, volunteered at the Shelby County Central Library, took classes at Rhodes College and University of Memphis, and helped hospice patients. DeDe is survived by her children Kathy Huninnen of Colorado, Peter (Connie) of Wisconsin, and Martha (Joe) Turner of Germantown, and her grandchildren Matt (Amanda) Turner of Collierville, Daniel (Holly) Turner of Germantown, Sterling (Meghan) Roop of Leeds, England, Peter (Sarah) Turner, of New York City, Heidi (Peter Neff) Roop of Seattle, Washington, and DeDe (Ben) Hazlip of Little Rock as well as her beloved great-granddaughters Lila, Maddie and Sadie. DeDe was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Roop and her daughter Barbara Roop Cole. Also her parents, Elsie Danenhower and Donald Danenhower. DeDe's family wishes to thank the staff at Health Care Center at the Village of Germantown and Crossroads Hospice for their love and care of her. In lieu of flowers please send donations in DeDe's name to the Unitarian Church of the River or MIFA. A private service will be held for her family at a later date.
