She was a WAC during World War II. Doris was predeceased by her husband William and daughter Hope Gross. She is survived by her daughters Faith (Chris) Englund and Joy (Walter) Pierson, Stuart FL, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.Doris was an artist, avid sailor and a sports fan - Miami Heat, NFL and tennis. She was a community leader, President of Suffolk County Girl Scouts, served on the church vestry at Trinity Episcopal Church, Northport, NY. Doris obtained grants to start Tiny Tots preschool at Trinity Episcopal Church and served as an assistant director. After moving to Stuart, Florida 11 years ago, she joined St. Mary's Church. Attended bible study and worked in the thrift store.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 11AM with a courtyard reception following the service.
