Doris Gatlin Moore LANTANA-Doris Gatlin Moore, 85, of Lantana, Texas, passed away peacefully into the arms of our heavenly Father on Nov. 21, 2016, after a year-long battle with cancer. Doris was born on April 13, 1931, in Friona, Texas, to the late Ernest and Nellie (Parr) Gatlin. She spent her youth in Muleshoe, Texas, and graduated Muleshoe High School in 1948. She was named Freshman Favorite and crowned Halloween Queen her senior year. She married James Moore on July 2, 1949, who preceded her in death in 1990. Doris worked various jobs which in later years included traveling the country alongside her husband as one of the first husband and wife trucking teams employed by Jack B. Kelley Trucking in Amarillo, Texas. One of her favorite pastimes was going to garage sales and finding treasures at bargain prices. Doris was an avid dog lover and often said that she loved dogs more than people. Doris is survived by her loving children: son, Daryl (wife, Audre) from Otsego, MI and grandchildren, Dallas (wife, Olivia), Stormie and Jamie; daughter, Peggy Burrows (husband, Dale) from Lantana, Texas, and grandsons, Jim, Danny and Adam (wife, Jessica); son, Jimmy (wife, Rosa) from Carrollton, Texas, and granddaughter, Jessica (husband, Justin). She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister, Ernestine Vernon (husband, LeWayne); sister-in-law, Nell Stinson (husband, Bob); numerous other family members and special high school friend, Juanita Hoover Winters. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Abundant Blessings Care in Lantana, Texas, for the constant compassion, understanding and support shown to Doris and the family. A private graveside service will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
