Eyre , Doris EleanorDoris Eleanor Eyre, age 97, of Painted Post, NY died on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.Doris was born on January 8, 1920 in Nichols, NY, the daughter of the late Henry Ward and the late Anna Maude (DuBois) Bensley. She married Wayne Eyre in 1947 in Owego, NY. He predeceased her on August 19, 2000. She was employed for Corning Glass Works as a mail clerk, retiring in 1982 with over 20 years of service. Doris will be remembered for her love of singing, polka dancing, snow mobiling and camping. She would take regular trips to various camping locations including the St. Lawrence River, Seneca Lake, Paradise Park and sites in Florida. She enjoyed playing cards - specifically euchre and Shanghai rummy. Above all else, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.She is survived by daughter, Norma Wheeler of Millerton, PA; grandchildren: Kim Marie (Jerald) Cotter of CT, Diana Lynn (Michael) Holum of CA, Edward Shelp of Long Island, NY, Doreen Elinor (James) Frank of Millerton, PA, Lisa Anne Tedder of CT, Bradley Lewis Landon of Hornell, NY, Michael (Deb) Wheeler of Savona, NY, Ralph Walter Wheeler of Dundee, NY; many great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Alma Jean Parsons of WV; brothers: Frank Bensley of Owego, NY, Robert Bensley of AZ; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her first husband, Bernard Walter Wheeler; sons: Ralph Walter Wheeler, Bernard Henry Wheeler; daughter, Elinor Mae Wheeler; and great granddaughter, Elinor Mae Wheeler.Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00pm, Pastor Sherman Wheeler officiating.
