Donna SmithColumbus JunctionDonna Lee Smith, 85, of Columbus Junction, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017, in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Donna's name. Sympathy notes may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.Donna Lee Miller was born on December 10, 1931, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Edward and Ila Pearl (McNeese) Miller. Donna was a 1949 graduate of Columbus Junction High School. On July 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Albert L. Smith in Kirksville, Missouri. Donna began her working career as a proof reader at Look Magazine and then became a file clerk for an Insurance Agency. Donna retired as an accounting supervisor from the United States Postal Service after over 30 years. She was a member of the American Postal Workers Union and enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, going to flea and antique markets and researching family history. Donna will be deeply missed by her sons, Tony Smith of Columbus Junction and Terry (Charyl) Smith of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren, Terry Smith, Jr., Valerie (Dannie Shuey) Ramirez and Steffen Smith; three great-grandchildren, Andrue Smith, Benjamin Smith and Gabriella Ramirez; sisters, Neva "JoAnn" Nelson of Washington, Iowa, Carol (Johnny) Thornton of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Joyce Irving of Columbus Junction; brother, James Arthur (Elizabeth) Miller of Anamosa and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert in 1985, and brothers-in-law, Eddie and Grant.
