INDEPENDENCE – Donna L. Hansen, 71, of Independence, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at the Unity Point - Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.Donna was born on October 8, 1944 in Independence, the daughter of Edwin D. and Ellen M. (Phelps) Close. She attended the Buchanan County Country Schools. For a short time she worked as a CNA in Washington State, and also in foster care. On Dec. 24, 1983 she married Verlyn H. Hansen, and they made their home in Littleton. She raised her children in Littleton and enjoyed every day she spent with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.She is survived by a son Dennis (Michaela) Graves, Independence; a daughter Darlene (Marvin) Young, Oelwein; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two brothers: Allen Close, Waterloo, and Richard Close, Marshalltown; and three sisters: Elien Maines, Littleton, Dorothy Schrader, Vinton, and Kate Dickerson, Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Verlyn; a daughter Becky Sue Hansen; four brothers: Walter Close, John Close, Glen Close, Lloyd Close; and three sisters: Ellen Close, Mary Graves, and Anna McKeen.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Rev. Sue Ann Raymond presiding. Burial was in the Littleton Cemetery, Littleton.
