Donald R. RobertsMelbourneDonald Ross Roberts, 86, passed away at his home in Melbourne, FL on June 13, 2017. Don was born on Feb. 7, 1931 in Martinton, IL to Robert Paul and Mae Whitaker Roberts, and grew up in Watseka, IL.Don received bachelor's and master's degrees from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and served in the U. S. Army in the 1950's. In 1958 he married Nancy Bradley Brasel and legally adopted her three children, James, Wendy and John.Don was an educator, salesman and computer programmer in Illinois and Minnesota.  Don spent most of his retirement years in Wisconsin and Florida. He was active in Unitarian Universalist churches in Minnetonka, MN, Elkhorn, WI, and Melbourne, FL. Don was a member of the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, and supported many charities.Don was predeceased by his parents, R.P. and Mae Roberts, sister Lois Jeanne Novotny, wife Nancy Roberts, son John Roberts, and grandson Jonathon Cutlip. Don is survived by his son, Jim Roberts, daughter Wendy Roberts, and daughters-in-law Irene Roberts and Jan Roberts; granddaughters, Jennifer and Heather, grandson, Rob; five great-grandchildren; niece Mary K. McIntire, nephew Bill Novotny, and Norma Taylor, loving companion for the last five years of Don's life. A memorial service will be held later this year in Melbourne, FL.Memorial donations may be made to the Iroquois County [IL] Historical Society http://www.iroquoiscountyhistoricalsociety.com/ ; or the www.alz.org.
